Helping Our Hospital Deliver High Quality
Healthcare Services Close To Home

Responding to The Need – Here’s To Your Good Health !
When the Hospital was redeveloped in 1964, its Emergency Department was designed to handle 7,000 patient visits. Today it serves in excess of 32.000 patients per year. Stevenson needs to grow to meet its communities needs. In response to that reality, the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation has launched the Here’s To Your Good Health! Capital Campaign. The Campaign is a phased pursuit to raise funds for the most urgent requirements of the Hospital.

Phase One Completed!
Phase One supported the equipment and smaller renovation costs for the Hospital’s premiere services in Cardiac Care, Dialysis, and Ophthalmology; as well as replacing the roof and purchasing selected annual capital equipment.

Phase Two is Well on the Way!
Phase Two is the current focus of the Campaign. In addition to providing support for new capital equipment in the Birthing unit, it emphasizes life-saving areas of development that assure the Hospital’s ability to meet the dramatically changing healthcare needs of our communities.

Emergency Department
A simple yet effective renovation has opened space for greater patient traffic, provided for night usage of day clinic rooms otherwise idle and, most importantly, permitted triage nurses to visually monitor patients awaiting care.  Ultimately, the ER facility will encompass separate entrances for walk-in patients and those transported by ambulance, offer more privacy including for mental health care givers, and provide modern isolation areas for infectious diseases.

Diagnostic Imaging
Two state-of-the-art digital ultrasound machines have been acquired as has the computer-based equipment necessary to support the filmless Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS). PACS permits x-rays, ultrasounds, CAT scans, and other critical scans to be sent online electronically to any specialist at any other Hospital for consultative diagnosis. The resulting system is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2008.

Next on the list is the acquisition of a CT Scanner. At 32,000 visits a year and growing, Stevenson is in a class by itself in terms of the lack of a CT scanner.  All other hospitals in the Province with that level of Emergency visits either have or have received approval for, a CT scanner. A proposal, endorsed by the Central LHIN, is awaiting Ministry approval. The intention is to have this project completed by the end of 2008.

Here's To Your Good Health! - Public Launch

On Tuesday August 7, 2007, the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation formally launched the Here’s to Your Good Health!  Capital Campaign to the public with the announcement of a $500,000.00 lead gift by Honda of Canada Mfg.  The event was held on the front lawn of the Hospital.

Here's To Your Good Health! - Retail Event

In 2007, from October 1 to November 30, many local businesses in the communities the Hospital serves participated in the first ever Retail Event in support of the SMH Foundation. Led by former SMHF Board Director, Art Kovats, the fundraising initiative had businesses selling paper apples, donating a portion of sales, or providing space on their counter for a coin box.
